Full process
In the industry, three principal modification processes are used to transform refined oil and fat into modified oil and fat:
- Fractionation is a purely physical process that separates fat into a more solid and a more liquid fraction.
- Interesterification redistributes fatty acids across triglycerides, chemically ‘blending’ the properties of different oils using a catalyst.
- Hydrogenation eliminates unsaturation in the oil by bonding hydrogen gas to the double bonds, aided by a solid catalyst, resulting in a much harder fat.
Our more contemporary processes, such as enzymatic interesterification and specialty fats fractionation, boast a much ‘greener’ image due to their safer, more sustainable, and efficient operation, which eliminates chemicals and requires milder process conditions.

Our oils and fats modification processes are designed to handle a variety of raw materials, including palm oil, palm kernel oil, soft oils and specialty tropical fats, but also animal fats such as fish oil and tallow fat.
