Qualistock+
The Desmet Qualistock+ continuous deodorizer is designed for application in vegetable oil refineries with no or few stock changes.
This is typically the case for producers of commodity vegetable oils like palm oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil and soya oil. Desmet offers a wide range of standard capacities from 50 up to 3000 tpd.

The modular design allows to adapt the configuration easily in function of needs of the customer: with or without stripping column (chemical versus physical refining), single or double column design (in case of height restrictions and/or very high capacities), additional heat recovery tray(s) for minimal energy consumption…
Special designs have been developed for specific applications:
- Dual temperature deodorizers for low trans, low contaminants end products (especially for rapeseed and soya oil)
- GE post stripping for low GE palm oil
How does it work
The operation of the Qualistock+ deodorizer (in this case with stripping column) is straightforward and fully automated:
The bleached and deaerated oil is continuously pumped through the coils of the heat exchange tray(s) in the lower part of the column. In these trays the bleached oil is heated with the deodorized oil coming from the deodorizing trays.
The oil then flows to the upper part of the deodorizer (final heating tray) where the oil is further heated to the desired deodorizer temperature with HP steam. The oil then overflows to the stripping column and the stripped oil passes then through the different deodorizing trays, all by overflow and gravity. The deodorized oil is then cooled in the heat exchange tray(s) before being pumped out of the buffer tray for final cooling and polishing filtration outside the deodorizer.
Entrained fatty matter is condensed in the packed scrubber located above the stripping column, and the fatty acid distillate is also pumped out of the column as an important by-product. Above the scrubber the column is connected to the vacuum system.
As an option a double scrubber system can be installed for optimal valorisation of the distillates (tocopherol concentrates) and/or to reduce oil losses (palm oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil).
The modular design of the different trays allows to adapt the final configuration of the deodorizer to customers’ needs in function of capacity and final quality of the refined oil.
