Strengthening Refining R&D Capabilities in Southeast Asia
Established three years ago in Kuala Lumpur, our Innovation Center began its journey with Phase 1 pilot-scale fats modification technologies, including the Mobulizer™ and Statolizer™ crystallization systems, along with advanced lab and pilot-scale filtration units. These technologies have supported controlled crystallization and solid fat structuring, key pillars in the development of specialty fats.
We are pleased to announce that our center has now finalized Phase 2 with the installation of a state-of-the-art lab-scale deodorization unit, marking our expansion into refining-stage R&D. This new capability enables us to conduct in-depth, bench-scale studies on:
- Kinetics of FFA removal and reduction of odors/volatiles
- Optimization of heating and cooling curves for enhanced thermal stability
- Refining performance across both palm-based and lauric-based feedstocks
As Desmet’s first oils & derivatives R&D center outside Europe, this facility is strategically established to accelerate innovation for regional processors. It provides a strong platform for product testing, process customization, and data-driven development, at the heart of Malaysia’s and Indonesia’s major palm oil production hubs.
With Phase 2 now operational, our center continues to serve as a technical engine for the region, reinforcing R&D as the backbone of Desmet’s Science Behind Technology.
