From Brazil’s First Refinery to a Biofuel Pioneer
Refinaria Riograndense, Brazil’s first refinery established in 1937, is taking a decisive step into the future with the construction of a new HVO/SAF pre‑treatment plant designed by Desmet.
The project combines two flexible processing lines capable of handling a broad feedstock portfolio—from soybean oil to animal fat and UCO—delivering a total capacity of 3,000 TPD.
Aligned with the strategic vision recently announced by PETROBRAS, this investment lays the foundation for the site's full transition to biofuels. Once operational, it may become the first HVO pre‑treatment facility in Latin America, helping accelerate the region’s energy transition.
A proud moment for Desmet and a strong signal for the future of low‑carbon fuels in the region. This achievement is made possible thanks to the dedication and expertise of our project team: Carlos Pace, Gabriel Alonso, Damián del Valle, Marcel Henrique Almeida, Jean-Marc Pradayrol
